Boys basketball

Seaforth lost a close game to Grace Christian on December 5, 58-61. The Hawks bounced back on Friday, defeating Graham 89-39.

Sophomore guard Declan Lindquist led Seaforth with 15 points, while Tyshawn Davenport and Lamar Murray each scored 14 points in the win.

Northwood started its season strong, demolishing North Moore on December 5, 81-30. Senior guard Drake Powell had 29 points and 13 rebounds against the Mustangs.

The Chargers beat Southeast Alamance in similar fashion on Friday, beating the Stallions, 74-35. Powell led the way with 18 points, while Fred Whitaker and sophomore Cam Fowler scored 15 and 16 points, respectively.

Chatham Central was also undefeated during the week, starting with a 69-64 win over Southeast Alamance. Junior Reed Albright scored a team-high 29 points while also grabbing eight rebounds.

The Bears followed that up with a 58-47 win over rival Jordan Matthews. Albright had 25 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

Jordan Matthews lost a tough game to Cummings on December 5, 51-53.

Chatham Charter lost its second and third straight games of the week, falling to Uwharrie Charter, 53-58, and Southeast Raleigh, 36-65.

Woods Charter also lost both matches during the week, losing to Eno River, 51-56, and Discovery Charter, 39-58.

Girls basketball

Seaforth started the week with a crushing 34-63 loss to Grace Christian, but the Hawks responded Friday with a 61-5 win over Graham.

Junior Peyton Collins led the way with 17 points in the dominant win.

Seaforth beat Chapel Hill in a Seaforth showcase on Saturday, 46-41. Junior Gabe White scored a team-high 22 points in the win.

Northwood was undefeated during the week, starting with a 58-20 win over North Moore. Nine different Chargers scored against the Mustangs with sophomore Aliyah Roberts leading the team with 11 points.

The Chargers earned a close 38-35 win over Southeast Alamance on Friday as junior Natalia Whittaker scored a team-high 12 points.

Chatham Central fell dramatically to Southeast Alamance, 35-70, to start the week. The Bears rebounded with a convincing 55-26 win over Jordan Matthews on Friday.

Junior Karalee Dodson had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the win.

Jordan-Matthews’ December 5 game against Cummings was suspended after a fight broke out between the players in the fourth quarter. The Jets trailed 32-34 at the time of stoppage.

Chatham Charter won its second and third straight games, starting with a 59-57 win over Uwharrie Charter. Freshman Hannah Hidden scored a team-high 28 points against the Eagles.

The Knights followed that up with a 49-41 win over Eastern Randolph.

Woods Charter started its week with a 33-35 loss to Eno River and responded with a 47-23 win over Discovery Charter.

In a tri-meet with Bartlett Yancey and Graham, Northwood beat Bartlett Yancey 54-30 and Graham 46-25.

At the Nick Sgori Invitational Saturday, Northwood’s Sunday Oo won first place for the 120-pound weight class, and Mason Powell won first place for heavyweight. Other Northwood medalists included Connor Willingmire (second, 113), Jackson Freeman (third, 113), Aldo Peluso (third, 126), Cole Chamblee (132) and Elia Farrow (second, 165).

Seaforth hosted a tri-meet with Jordan Matthews and Chatham Central on December 6, beating the Jets 83-0 and the Bears 81-0.

Jordan Matthews won his first double of the season over Chatham Central, 42-30.

At Saturday’s Wolverine Challenge, Seaforth placed second out of 24 teams. Medalists included Gabe Rogers (1st, 106), Jordan Miller (2nd, 113), Josh Miller (1st, 120), Len Armstrong (1st, 126), Judge Lloyd (2nd, 175), Harrison Compton (1st , 190) and Ethan Kobal (I, 215).

Seaforth’s Keira Rosenmarkle won first place for the girls’ 152-pound weight class at the Wolverine Challenge.

Chatham Central lost all five of its dual matches in the North Moore Duals on Saturday. Jordan-Matthews also lost all five of his dual matches at the Coggins HOF Duals on Saturday.‌

Internal path

At the East Alamance Polar Bear meet on Dec. 5, Northwood’s Jordan Wiley took first place in the boys 1,000-meter dash with a time of 2:56.32. Jordan Matthews’ Christian Torres finished third in the boys’ 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races.

Jordan Matthews placed second in the boys’ 4×800 relay.

On the girls side, Julia Hall and Marissa Close of Northwood placed second and fourth, respectively, in the 1,000 meters.

At the Stay in Your Lane Invitational Saturday, Chatham Charter set 14 personal records. Chatham Charter’s Lucas Smith placed third in the boys’ 300-meter dash with a time of 36.07.

At the same meet, Northwood’s Sydney Gray placed third in the girls’ 3,200 meters.
