The Sentry’s 2024 PGA Tour regular season kicks off Jan. 4-7 at The Plantation Course in Kapalua — and the event is partnering with Mauna Loa to provide discounted kamaaina tickets.
Sentry and Mauna Loa both offer kamaaina ground admission prices, available to Hawaii locals with a valid photo ID, as the Tour’s top players return to Maui and look to get off to a strong start in the race for the FedExCup.
“We are thrilled to welcome back our long-time partner, Mauna Loa.” CEO Max Novena said in a press release. “Through our collaboration with this iconic Hawaiian brand, we are proud to provide our local community with an exceptional opportunity to experience The Sentry and enjoy everything the event has to offer.”
The kamaaina ticket offered by Mauna Loa, with limited availability daily, starts Thursday through Sunday at the next day’s prices (plus applicable taxes and fees):
• Thursday, January 4 and Friday, January 5: $45 daily.
• Saturday, January 6 and Sunday, January 7: $55 daily.
“We are honored to once again partner with The Sentry as the PGA Tour kicks off its season with one of the most important events of the year.” Ed Schultz, president and CEO of Hawaiian Host Group, Mauna Loa’s parent company, said in the news release. “As a legacy brand in Hawaii, Mauna Loa has been a partner of this event for several years and we are excited to help continue to grow this event locally through our sponsorship of the kamaaina ticket program. Our hearts continue to go out to all those affected by the Maui fires, and we hope kamaaina enjoys the opportunity to cheer on the best players in PGA Tour on their return to Maui.
The Sentry remains committed to supporting the community while respecting and considering unique needs in the wake of the devastating West Maui wildfires in August.
The tournament is committed to ensuring continued awareness, fundraising and economic impact for the Valley Island.
“The Sentry and the PGA Tour’s steadfast commitment to Maui is deeply appreciated,” Keith Amemiya, chairman of the governor’s sports task force, said in the new release. “This event has positively impacted the Maui community for nearly three decades, and it means supporting it now more than ever as the people of Maui continue the healing process and begin to recover and rebuild.”
As golf fans around the world plan to see the game’s best players begin the 2024 PGA Tour regular season at The Planation Course, The Sentry reminds visitors to offer care, patience, and compassion when traveling to Maui in January.
All kamaaina ticket holders can purchase daily parking tickets (Thursday and Sunday) for $10 plus applicable taxes and fees. The Kamaaina stop is located at Kapalua Resort where free shuttles drop off fans at the main entrance.
A total of 60 players have qualified for The Sentry, the premier feature event of the 2024 TOUR season. The full list of qualifiers can be found at TheSentry.com.
The Sentry announced Tuesday that Rickie Fowler, Viktor Hovland, Hideki Matsuyama and Scottie Scheffler have all committed to the tournament.
With three Tour titles in 2023, including the FedExCup, Holland has secured his fourth straight trip to Valley Isle and The Sentry. The Norwegian claimed his first title at the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday. In August, he claimed his second title of the year in the BMW Championship after a career-low round of 61 to defeat Schaeffler and Matt Fitzpatrick. A week later, Hovland captured the 2023 FedExCup after winning the Tour Championship by five strokes to become the fourth player in history to win both the BMW Championship and the FedExCup in the same season.
Schaeffler began his two-win campaign in 2023 with a successful title defense at the WM Phoenix Open. A month later, the 27-year-old found the winner’s circle again at the Players Championship for his sixth career Tour title. Schaeffler will make his third appearance at The Sentry 2024.
Fowler is set to make his fifth appearance at The Sentry following his sixth career Tour win at the Rocket Mortgage Classic in July. The California native defeated Colin Morikawa and Adam Hadwin in the first round of playoffs to secure the title, his first win since the 2019 WM Phoenix Open. Fowler has four top-six finishes in as many appearances at the Plantation course.
The Japanese native Matsuyama is set to make his seventh start for The Sentry after earning a top-50 finish in the 2022-23 FedExCup standings and qualifying for the 2023 BMW Championship. The 31-year-old has two top-10 finishes during the 2023 calendar year, including That’s a T9 in the Farmers Insurance Open and a fifth-place finish in the Players Championship.
