Monday 4 December

Viroqua 59, Prairie du Chien 48

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN — Viroqua (2-2) won for the second time in three games by building a 13-point lead in the first half and holding it in the second half.

Andrew Fassbender made four 3-pointers en route to a team-high 16 points, and teammate Benson McDowell scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half.

Prairie du Chien was led by Tyler Harris, who scored 14 points.

Tuesday 5 December

Westby 75, Brookwood 36

WESTBY — Senior guard Caleb Johnson scored 26 points for the Norsemen (2-2) in their one-sided win over the Falcons (1-4). Johnson made five threes, including three in the second half.

Onalaska Luther 62, Westby 56

WESTBY — Onalaska Luther started the Coulee Conference season with a win thanks to a 38-point performance by senior forward Logan Bahr on Friday.

The Knights (4-0 overall, 1-0 conference) hit the road and defeated Westby (2-3, 0-1) by a score of 62-56.

Bahr scored 16 points in the first half, giving Luther a 27-20 lead by halftime. The Knights maintained this margin throughout the second half, as Bahr scored another 22 goals as the only player on the team to achieve double figures.

Westby’s top scorer finished by one point, as junior guard Devin Nedland scored 12 points and senior guard Caleb Johnson scored 11 points.

West Salem 86, Viruca 48

WEST SALEM — The Panthers (3-1, 1-0) won their conference debut easily at home over the Blackhawks (2-3, 0-2).

West Salem registered 17 different players in the contest, with senior guard Joe Sullivan leading the way with 15 and freshman Drew McConkey adding 10.

GALESVILLE – The Redhawks (2-4, 1-1) had their best offensive performance of the season in a win over the Blackhawks (1-4, 0-1).

After two straight losses where the GET failed to score more than 20 points as a team, Tatum Johnson did it alone against Viroqua with 21 points. Freshman Amara Brantner added 14 points while Emma Grams and freshman Sammy Vela added five each.

Viroqua was led by Rachel Diehl (11 points) and Emily Hubach (10 points).

WAUSEACA, Wis. – The Buccaneers (2-3, 0-2) were led by freshman Kaylee Fenner’s 19 points and freshman Seliva Kruger’s 10.

HILLSBORO, Wis. – The Norsemen (1-4) lost their third straight game.

DESOTO — The Pirates (3-3, 1-2) earned their first conference win over the Royals (0-6, 0-2).

Freshman guard Kylie Fenner led the way with 18 points, and sophomore guard Ella Koch added 10 points in the win.

Cashton 47, Veruca 40

The Eagles (3-1) won the Lacrosse Center Generations Basketball Classic night title over the Blackhawks (1-6).

Cashton junior center Taylor Lindley Schendel scored a game-high 23 points as her team overcame 30% shooting on free throws. Emily Hubach led Viroqua with seven points.

De Soto 52, Lansing-New Alpine K47

The Buccaneers (4-3) earned a borderline battle win over the Iowa State Keyhawks in the Generations Basketball Classic at the Lacrosse Center.

Freshman goalkeeper Kylie Fenner led De Soto with 29 points, and sophomore goalkeeper Ella Couch added 12 points.

VIROQUA — The Blackhawks (0-5-1, 0-2) are still searching for their first win after being eliminated by the Lynx on home ice.

VIROQUA — The Cougars unleashed a barrage of shots on the Blackhawks (0-6), racking up 40 goals in their road win.

Aida Karoski scored the opening goal for Viruca with an assist from Emma Bordos. Sun Prairie West scored the next two goals with goaltender Sami Bramstedt recording 27 saves for the Blackhawks.

LOS ANGELES CREST – The Lancers (3-0) scored 34 goals in just three games following a dominant home win over the Blackhawks (3-2).

Wyatt Farrell scored four goals, all in the first period of the Lancers’ seven-goal opening frame. Farrell added three assists to finish with seven points.

Noah Gillette had three goals and two assists. Michal Stoica scored two goals and three assists.

Cooper Hill, Ethan Meyer and Colton Holzer each had a goal and an assist. Asher Foves scored a goal and Cooper Johnson had an assist on Farrell’s second goal.

Viroqua’s only score in the third inning came from Joey Hertl. Landen Burke and Collin Simonson had assists.

VIROQUA – The Blackhawks split a pair of duals and beat Kickapoo/La Farge despite winning just one of the six games contested.

Mason Kosinski won by pinfall at 120 versus Kickapoo/La Farge, and Kayden Sullivan (175), Ivan Solberg (138), Vinnie Klum (150), Blaine Bremmer (157) and Anthony DiPietro (165) picked up victories at Richland Center.

Saturday 9 December

Tomah – Two Timberwolves wrestlers won titles at their home invitational while Tomah finished second behind Regis in the team standings with 263.5 points.

Dalton Johnson won the 165B title with a 7-0 win over Sparta’s Kazan Krause. Haakon Garvin won the 175B title in 59 seconds by pinning Kayden Kast of Westby.

The Timberwolves also had three other finalists in Cale Ollendyk (106b), Austin Gray (120) and Carter Habeck (215).

Sparta finished fourth (228.5) with a pair of champions. Devon Lizzo won the 138-pound title over Reid Sawyer of New Lisbon by a 3-0 decision. At 285, Cadence Zweifel pinned Batesville’s Kaden Bahcelich in 2:34 for the championship.

GET/Mel-Min was seventh (172) while Scott Johnson was second at 144B. He had three pinned wins over the course of the day.

Viroqua finished 13th (145.5), Westby finished 16th (125), Cashton 17th (116) and De Soto 18th (78).

Holmen trio

HOLMEN – West Salem Co-op emerged victorious with a team score of 134.825 behind a dominant night from senior Morgan Sickert.

Siekert, a former WIAA Division 2 state qualifier who finished fourth in the Viroqua co-op vault, made her debut on a night that couldn’t have gone much better.

She was the all-around champion with a score of 36.15 with winning performances on vault (9.2), uneven bars (8.8), balance beam (8.7), and floor exercise (9.45).

Holmen placed second with a score of 129.375 and was led by junior Katie Lange in second place with an all-around performance (34.875). She placed second in each event with scores of 8.85 on vault, 8.725 on bars, 8.075 on beam, and 9.225 on floor exercise.

West Salem’s Kennedy Garbers was third (33.7), West Salem’s Natalie Peterson was fourth (32.125), and Holmen’s Maya Amundson was fifth (31.425).

High school sports tours are a great way for students to showcase their athletic abilities and represent their school on a larger stage. These tours provide the opportunity for teams to compete against schools from different regions, and experience new cultures and environments. It also allows for team bonding and the chance to create lasting memories with teammates. High school sports tours can be a rewarding and enriching experience for student athletes, and can help them develop important skills both on and off the field.
