Erie – Erie owned Mason for the first 29 minutes. Dundee won the last three.
The Vikings came from behind with a big fourth-quarter lead Monday to beat Erie Mason 60-51 in a non-conference boys basketball game to remain undefeated.
The biggest play of the match came from Dundee’s Braiden Whitaker, who earned a coast-to-coast free kick inside just two minutes.
“That was a brutal hit and a huge play,” Dundee coach Jay Hasselschwerdt said. It was the play to seal the game. “The best player on the floor took over.”
The score was tied 40-40 through three quarters and was still tied with 3:15 left in the game. The Vikings grabbed a 51-49 lead on a bucket by Adam Speer, then took a 53-49 lead with 2:29 remaining. After a Mason turnover, the Vikings fed the ball in the backcourt to Whittaker, who went coast-to-coast for a dunk and a 55-49 Vikings lead.
Erie Mason coach Kevin Skaggs called it “one of the best coast-to-coast dunks I’ve seen since my college coaching days. He’s a beast to contain.”
Whittaker finished with 18 points and a number of assists for an 8-0 Dundee advantage. Spur scored 11 points and Jess Lee scored 6 big points in the fourth quarter and 8 in the game.

“They’re only 1-5 but have played almost every team close,” he said. “We knew it would be close. We have to be tougher. It would have been nice to get the win.”
Logan Gooden scored 19 points and Xavier Wise 10 for the Eagles, who will be absent until January 5.
