Jada Maldonado, of Aurora, teaches communication sciences and disorders at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is now a Level 1, 2 or 3 certified tutor for educational services on the university’s campus. Maldonado offers tutoring assistance in the following subjects:
Mathematics recognition at CRLA Level 1.
Earning certification means that Campus Educational Services has met CRLA’s high standards for teacher selection, training, direct service, and assessment as an integral part of their comprehensive teaching program. CRLA is accredited by the National Association for Developmental Education (NADE) and the American College Personnel Association (ACPA).
The training consists of three levels: Level 1 (Certified), Level 2 (Advanced) and Level 3 (Master). After completing Level 1 training, teachers are eligible for Level 2 training followed by Level 3 training.

The Aurora freshman was named to the All-Ohio Athletic Conference women’s volleyball team
Sam Ruedaa graduate of Metea Valley High School in Aurora, is one of three Baldwin Wallace University women’s volleyball athletes named to the 2023 All-Ohio Athletic Conference women’s volleyball team.
Rueda earned her first All-OAC honor after racking up 233 kills in 24 matches. She is second on the team in digs with 210 and is third on the team in total blocks with 23. Rueda was named OAC Offensive Player of the Year on October 16 which was her first weekly honor of her career. Rueda recorded career bests in kills with 19 against John Carroll University and in digs with 20 against Rose-Hulman. She also added 15 aces and a season-best nine assists. In her career, she has 544 total kills, 439 digs, 39 aces, and 44 total blocks.
The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season with a 12-12 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the OAC.

Aurora student receives scholarship from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater
Nicole Dawson From Aurora, Illinois, the junior studying biology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater is among the scholarship recipients for the 2023-24 academic year.
Dawson won the following grant: Scientific Advisors

Local student portion of UW-Whitewater’s NCAA bid
Emma Bludgen, a native of Aurora, Illinois, studies human performance at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and is a member of the Warhawk volleyball team, which earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament on Nov. 11 with a 3-0 win. At previously undefeated UW-Oshkosh in the title game of the 2023 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship presented by Culver’s.
The Warhawks have now won the WIAC Championship 18 times — 14 more than any other team in the conference — and will appear in the NCAA Tournament for the 34th time in program history.

An Aurora student joins the college’s Student Government Association
More than 40 Augustana College students will serve in the Student Government Association (SGA) for the 2023-2024 academic year.
SGA representatives are elected to serve as a liaison between the student body, faculty, staff, and administration of the college. The mission of SGA is to express the needs and opinions of the student body in an effort to grow the academic, cultural, and social life at Augustana.
Includes Senate SGA 2023-2024 Alexis Osei Kofi, majoring in biology and public health from Aurora. She will serve as President of the Senate.

The Aurora native participates in theater productions at Augustana College
Aurora Joe Burke, a history education major, helped produce the premiere of “Nine” Nov. 16-19 at Augustana College. The play was directed by Shelley Cooper, associate professor of theater arts, and presented in the Brunner Theater Center’s main theater.
Facing a midlife crisis, film director Guido Contini dreads his upcoming birthday, which finds him at a creative crossroads. The play is based on the musical by Maury Yeston and the book by Arthur Cobbett.
Over 35 students worked to direct, produce and perform this piece including city and state students. Burke was involved as sound designer.
