CBS Sports releases new rankings of the Top 25 and 1 in college basketball with a new No. 1 spot

The latest CBS Sports Top 25 and 1 college basketball rankings are here from Garry Parrish and there’s a new No. 1 team.

Purdue defeated Arizona over the weekend and changed the top tier of basketball teams. It appears the boilermakers are back in the driver’s seat.

Without further ado, let’s dive into the latest Top 25 and 1 rankings, via CBS Sports.

The biggest win of the weekend came from the Boilermakers. They beat the No. 1 AP team 92-84 after taking an 11-point lead at halftime.

Three guys score 20+ points: Fletcher Lower (27), Braden Smith (26) and Zach Eddy (22) and if that’s the case on the night, this team could be impossible to beat. The question remains: Can Bordeaux maintain its number one ranking?

The Jayhawks beat Indiana 75-71 after falling behind at halftime. Heck, Bill Self and company were down eight people when they entered the locker room.

But great teams always find an answer. Kevin McCullar Jr. had 21 points, six rebounds and four assists. Hunter Dickinson added 17 points, 14 rebounds and one assist.

It was a close call, but the Cougars got it done over Texas A&M (7-4). The Aggies are actually the No. 26 team in this poll. Houston led by 15 points at halftime and won 70-66.

Emmanuel Sharp had 21 points and six rebounds. LJ Cryer certainly helped the cause with 17 points, three rebounds and one assist. Houston remains unbeaten with the win and is a third of the way away from a perfect season.

The Huskies earned a hard-fought win over Gonzaga in a game over the weekend. UConn jumped out to a double-digit lead at the half and won 76-63.

Donovan Clingan had 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Cam Spencer added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists. UConn heads to Seton Hall Wednesday.

It wasn’t the best day for the Wildcats, who lost their first game of the season 92-84 to Purdue. The former No. 1 team will no longer be No. 1

Arizona had a banner day from Caleb Love, who scored 29 points, six rebounds and three assists. Keshad Johnson also had 24 points, eight rebounds and two assists, but it wasn’t enough against Purdue’s Big Three.

Since the loss to Wisconsin, Marquette has won three straight games heading into a showdown with Providence on Tuesday. However, it was a closer-than-expected win over St. Thomas, 84-79.

Owusu Ighodaro led the way in the win with 21 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Tyler Kulek had a double-double with 12 points, two rebounds and 10 assists.

The Volunteers improved to 8-3 on the season with a 79-70 win over NC State on Sunday and got a one-two punch from Josiah-Jordan James and Zachai Ziegler.

The combo scored 23 and 20 points, respectively. If they are that dangerous, this team could be dangerous, but they will need additional contributions.

Illinois has been inactive since the aforementioned loss to Tennessee on December 9th. Rankings updated ahead of Sunday’s game against Colgate.
Either way, Illinois is one of the most impressive teams in the Big Ten. As long as guys like Terrence Shannon Jr. and Quincy Guerrier are productive, this team can compete at a really high level.

The Sooners continued their impressive start to the year with a dominant 81-47 win over Green Bay. It was one of those cruise control wins to keep the unbeaten season going.

But the next challenge is the biggest one. The Sooners travel to face North Carolina on Wednesday. We will see how realistic this team is after that match.

The Owls improved to 9-2 on the season with a 10-point win, 64-54, over St. Bonaventure on Sunday. It wasn’t the prettiest, but FAU got it done.

Jonelle Davis was the best, scoring 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Vladislav Guldin was the only other Owl in double figures with 11 points and seven rebounds.
