The College Football Playoff will certainly dominate the headlines, but the 2023-24 college football schedule features an impressive lineup of matchups. No. 21 Tennessee has played at the third-fastest pace in college football this season (21.0 seconds per game) and the Volunteers will face No. 17 Iowa State in the 2024 Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1. Iowa State ranked 101st in the nation in that category (27.8 seconds per game) and effectively tried to grind opponents into the dust to overcome an offense that averaged 16.6 points and 238.8 yards per game.

The latest college football odds via SportsLine consensus list Tennessee as a 7.5-point favorite in that matchup but the total (36) also seems to acknowledge Iowa State’s ability to force teams to play at their own pace. Which side should you support in that ballgame and what other teams should you include when you make your college football predictions? Before you pick any college football in these games or others, be sure to check out our college football betting guide from legendary Vegas handicapper Bruce Marshall.

Top college football predictions for bowl season

Marshall recommends one of college football’s top picks for bowl season: He’s backing South Florida (+3) to stay within reach of Syracuse in the 2023 Boca Raton Bowl on Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. ET. Marshall also likes the Over (61).

After winning just one game last season, South Florida hired Tennessee offensive coordinator Alex Golish to take over the program and the results were immediate, with the Bulls improving to six wins and improving themselves in almost every major statistical category.

Meanwhile, Syracuse fired Dino Babers late in the season after eight years at the helm and turned to Nunzio Campanelli to run the program. The Orange picked up a 35-31 win over Wake Forest in the regular season finale to help Syracuse gain bowl eligibility but now USF will have nearly a month to digest that film and attack a Syracuse defense that has given up at least 31 points in six of its last eight games. . Find out what other choices you can make here.

How to choose college football for bowl season

Marshall has evaluated every other game and is backing the team to a 17-4 mark against the spread. Get betting analysis for every match on SportsLine.
